Ted Haggard Sex Scandal

Maybe you remember the Reverend Ted Haggard from the Richard Dawkins documentary, "The Root of All Evil?" He was the pastor of the Colorado megachurch who claimed to talk to President Bush on the phone every week, told Dawkins that he was wrong to trust in science, and eventually kicked Dawkins and his crew off of his church property for "calling his children monkeys" (i.e., talking about evolution). In addition to that performance, Haggard may have been pulling off an Oscar-worthy turn as the president of the National Association of Evangelicals, while in reality pursuing a homosexual relationship over a three-year period with a male prostitute, Mike Jones. From the Times Online:

Mr Jones, 49, said that he had been prompted to make public his claims because of Mr Haggard’s stance on same-sex marriage.

He told local media: "It made me angry that here’s someone preaching about gay marriage and going behind the scenes having gay sex," he said.

"I just want people to step back and take a look and say, ’Look, we’re all sinners, we all have faults, but if two people want to get married, just let them, and let them have a happy life.’

Although I personally don't have a problem with Pastor Haggard wanting to explore his sexuality, I think it may have been unwise for him to do so while married with kids, and working as a prominent advocate of Christian morality. But the same thing has happened to other prominent Christian leaders in the country, so I'm not really that surprised.

According to Pastor Ross Parsley of New Life Church, Haggard has allegedly confessed to "some" of the allegations. Seeing as he's accused of only two things, (homosexuality and illicit drug use), I suppose we're supposed to pick the one we find less offensive and go with that.

Personally, I find it a little tough to swallow that only one allegation would be true.

I was talking with my wife about this earlier today, and I think that most of the people who make it big in the religion business are either in it for the money or for the power. I think those that are in it for the money tend to be smarter about not getting caught doing "sinful" things, because they're already cynical about their motives. But the people that are in it for the power trip (and I think Haggard was definitely one, being boastful about his influence over Bush), tend to think of themselves as "tools of God," and eventually are convinced that they are so valuable to God that they are essentially invulnerable. That's when they slip up and allow themselves to do things that a more humble person would never do.

What Haggard should do now, if he had any self-respect or integrity, would be to renounce his anti-gay-marriage ways, and instead endorce same-sex marriage for hte entire world.

He should fight for gay rights. But of course he wont.

Although... after thinking about it, maybe he's not so hypocritical after all. Sure, he may have had a three-year gay affair with a prostitute, but he didn't marry the guy.

Maybe this is just a new signal for the moral majority he represents: it's okay to be gay, as long as you keep it in the closet.

UPDATE!!!!! Haggard admits to BUYING METH FROM A MALE PROSTITUTE (but denies gay sex claim LOL)!

Previously, Haggard said that he never used drugs ever in his life, now he confesses to being a meth head. Its just a matter of time before he admits butt play with the male hooker.

Read about the Meth confession HERE!

Technically, he says he threw out the drug without using it. But thats gotta be total bullshit.

Sounds like he's only admitting as much as he thinks can be proved. Pretty lame, if you ask me. Isn't there something in the Bible about not lying?

Now hold on there, Zach. The anti-gay-marriage movement is part of the pro-family agenda, and you know what they think about sex outside of marriage.

No matter what, he's a hypocrit.

Holy Shit!?!?!? Yep, I also routinely buy a $1000 worth of meth and put it on my desk as a paperweight. Not only do they insult us with their hypocrisy, they think we are totally stupid to buy their lame excuses. I have no sympathy for this bigot.

According to the voicemails that the prositute has on tape, a guy named "art" (who allegedly is Ted) says that he wants to "get more stuff" in the amount of 100 or 200 dollars. The context of the audio recording implies strongly that the guy is a regular and is hooking up meth not for the first time.

Yeah, actually. The government has just proclaimed that any single person younger than 30 should abstain from sex altogether.
