Question of the Day #12: Hypotheticals

When I was handed Question of the Day, I had the option of replacing all of Franc's questions with my questions or just letting all of his pan out. For the most part, I simply made up my own.

Today, however, I'm just going to use the entry that Franc had scheduled. I thought it was interesting, and it gives me a couple extra days to be lazy digest some turkey.

---------------

Da Questions

To answer these questions, try to imagine both atheism and theism as hypotheticals for a minute.

1. What would the world be like if God did not exist?
2. What would the world be like if God existed?

What would the world be like if God did not exist?

Like it is. Unlikely things would occur but mostly things would unfold according to natural law with no regard for people good or bad.

What would the world be like if God existed?

Most likely there wouldn’t be a universe at all since an infinite being would have no need that would drive him to create it.

But if he did want some pet humans for some reason creating a whole universe seems like over kill. He’d likely just create a place for them to be. He wouldn’t need a sun to light it, he would just create this place as inherently lighted. After that it depends on what purpose these humans serve.

1.What would the world be like if God did not exist?

You wouldn't have a world if there was no God.

2.What would the world be like if God existed?

The world as you see it now.

My answers from the Deist POV:

What would the world be like if God did not exist?

For all practical purposes the 'God-like force' that created this world no longer exists. The world "would be" as it is.

What would the world be like if God existed?

I would guess that if there was a God looking over this world, as most religions theorize, he'd be pretty pissed off at what he sees and he might decide to wipe the slate clean and start over.

Frank Walton has it backwards. Here are the correct answers:

1. Exactly as it is now.

2. Assuming the God was a Biblical God, there would be alot more death and misery. In addition, the world would be flat and there would be actual scientific evidence for creationism.
